The switch is used in the following application areas: public safety, ATC (Air Traffic Control), the maritime sector, ARBI, PBX and Public Addressing systems. The switch is a flexible and extremely scalable system. The smallest switch comprises of just one system card and one interface card.

This configuration has a capacity of 8 voice channels. The maximum capacity is achieved using four 3HE euro-racks, each holding 16 system cards totalling the system capacity to 512 voice channels. Using configurable multi-slots, broadband audio for high-quality voice and PA systems can easily be assembled. The system is implemented using as little jumpers as possible and is configured and managed using a software control & monitor program. The system can be remotely maintained and updated with new firmware. In addition, built-in loop-back modes allow for good diagnostics. Due to the redundant system bus design and a multi-server structure, an extremely reliable telecommunication switch is guaranteed. The operator control panels are connected in a star instead of a ring configuration to ensure the maximum possible availability. System cards The TCS990 is build with the following system parts.

DMI 990: Digital Matrix Interface. This is the general system card. All interface cards are linked to this card type. The system card has the following specifications: 300 Mhz Digital Signal processor with 8 Mbyte SDRAM and 8 Mbyte Flash ROM. 300 Kgate Field Programmable Gate Array and a redundant Low Voltage Differential Signalling system bus. Two serial telecom busses, four uarts/sdlc controllers, 16 system and 16 user I/O s a 16 bits expansion bus and 10 LED signals. Page 4 of 15 Revision date: 18-5-2009 Copyright MEP LLI 990: Local Line Interface. The card can be used to create analogue and digital connections in the voice switch. This card supports four 2/4 wire analogue (M1030/1040) lines. The card can also hold four expansion modules . These expansion modules can be used to support a wide variety of (digital) line types.

Together with the DMI990 the card supports an automatic analogue line system to the CLI990 or CVS990 with the following properties: adaptive echo cancelling, automatic line attenuation correction, automatic line equalization, remote signalling, automatic line monitoring, best signal selection and remote serial communication. It is also possible to connect transmitters/receivers locally. In this case the digital signals (PTT, SQL) are used and optionally other signalling functions like transceiver malfunction and retransmission can be connected. LBI 990: Local Battery Interface The local battery interface is used for direct connection to a subscriber on a non amplified direct line. The card supports up to four lines and can work with ring in ring out or with Q8 signalling. The card has multiple ring generators to avoid a single point of failure.

CLI 990: Compact Line Interface The CLI990 is an euro card sized module. The CLI990 can accommodate one digital extension module. Together with the LLI990, the connection forms an automatic analogue line system. The CLI990 is positioned on the remote side of the line alongside the transmitter/receivers. The CLI990 has a connection for one transceiver. The transceiver connection has four photo-coupler input and output ports. These are used for squelch, transmitter malfunctions, emergency power, PTT, relays, channel selection and line malfunction. The digital line connection can consist of a BRM, PRM, ETM, SDM or a CDM990 expansion module. A RS422 asynchronous serial port is available for digital signalling. For best signal selection applications an analogue input port with programmable gain is available to measure the RSSI signals. The module can be mounted in a 19 rack.

All external wiring is connected through RJ45 plugs which are located at the rear. Page 5 of 15 Revision date: 18-5-2009 Copyright MEP MB 990: Mother board. This card is the motherboard in a euro-rack. The power supply (or supplies), the system and the interface cards are inserted into the rack. The mother board can accommodate two power supplies and 16 system and interface cards. Several racks can be linked to each other using a simple single flat cable. A power line sensor module monitors both power supplies and measures the ambient temperature Page 6 of 15 Revision date: 18-5-2009 Copyright MEP Extension modules These modules allow the switch to support a wide variety of (digital) communication types. All modules are as an extension to the LLI990 or CLI990, unless otherwise indicated.

SCM 990: Subscriber line interface Circuit Module. This card supports the connection of eight analogue telephone sets for a central battery installation. The card can be programmed for different national requirements on various line implementations. The card also supports long and short lines and can handle pulse and DTMF signalling. DAM 990: Direct Access arrangement Module. This card supports analogue connections to PBX or PSTN switches. It is used to facilitate links from the public or business network to the voice communication switch. BRM 990: Basic Rate Module. This card supports Euro ISDN (2B + D) channels. The channels can be configured as terminal and network equipment. The connects to the S/T reference point of the ISDN reference model. PRM 990: Primary Rate Module. The PRM990 is a 2 Mbit E1 connection in compliance with ITU / This module cannot be used in conjunction with other digital line modules .

CDM 990: Co-directional Digital Module. This card supports digital co-directional 64 Kbit (leased) lines. Its main application is to connect to the compact voice switch, although any protocol could be implemented. Three transceiver connections with E&M signalling are available. The card can be provided with an optional ATS-QSIG protocol that enables three voice channels and a digital connection to be included over a 64 Kbit connection (note that voice compression is not suitable for line modems). Page 7 of 15 Revision date: 18-5-2009 Copyright MEP ETM990: Ethernet Module. The ETI990 supports a 10 / 100 Mbit network with a TCP/IP protocol stack using UTP connection. This module can be used to realize VOIP. ADM 990: Asynchronous Data Module. The ADM990 contains a RS232 serial port. RTM 990: Real Time Module. The RTM990 module is a clock module used to generate accurate local time.

This time is used for time stamping system messages. SDM 990: Synchronous Data Module. The SDM990 contains 5 differential serial ports ( ) and is used to realize permanent digital 64 Kbit connections. The SDM990 uses the Fast Signalling Protocol for byte synchronization. The connection can be configured as a TE or an NT. This module is also used for asynchronous RS422 links. BSM 990: Best Signal Module. The BSM990 contains three analogue DC input ports for radio signal strength measurements (RSSI), a connection for a time mark generator and an asynchronous serial port for service purposes. This module is used in simulcast (CCOC) and diversity systems. GPM 990: Global Positioning Module. The GPM990 contains three analogue DC input ports for RSSI measurements, two coax connectors support an active GPS antenna and a reference output for the transmitter.

This module is used to supports CCOC over IP. EIM 990: Expansion Input Module. The PIM 990 contains 8 non isolated input ports. These input ports are suitable for input levels from 12 to 24 Volts. Page 8 of 15 Revision date: 18-5-2009 Copyright MEP EOM 990: Expansion Output Module. The EOM990 contains 8 open collector output ports. These output ports are suitable for levels up to 24 Volts. LCM 990: Last Call Module. The LCM990 is a solid state disk. It has the capability to record four hours of voice data. The module records all voice communication from the operator position. The LCM has reserved memory for twelve pre-recorded messages. These messages can be played on a predefined channels and time. The module is placed inside the touch screen panel.
